Jan. 31

I finished the ring that I made yesterday. We learned how bad the pine beetles are getting. The reason why they are know so out of hand is because the last mayor did nothing to stop them. Now the new mayor has her hands full with help from other people to destroy the pine beetles. They have been around since 1960's and they are in Alberta but they are not out of hand as they are in BC. IN Alberta there is a number were someone can call and then they will be at their door step in a few mins after the phone call to get rid of the tree that has the pine beetles in them.
Got to go

Work is going good. I am helping out in the Metal workshop that the school has and in the class they get to make rings, dog tags or they can use them for a key chain too. They make a design with a block of wood and then hammer in some nails and then take the different coloured wire and make a design out of it. etc. I am able to make my own ring out of brass and then i will get to move to silver.

We had a surprize birthday party for Mathieu on Saturday and ended up staying up until 1 am.

Jan. 28

I am doing fine.
We have CTI warnings which are to say hey smarten up because if you don't we will kick you out. One of the guys has a CTI warning because he missed work and then he got one to be for respectful of the others privacy. The rulethat we have in our contract that we made was don't go into someones bedroom unless you have permission from the person who sleeps in that bedroom. If you see the door closed knock on the door and if someone answers and says come in then you can but if you knock and no one answers (even if someone is in the room) then don't come in let them be because maybe they want to have time alone.

The house that we are staying in is starting to feel like home away from home ( just like when we go visit oma and opa)

Updates

January 7th 2008
Today we are still getting comfortable in the house and decided what to have for breakfast lunch and supper for the week of the 7th - 12th.

January 11 2008 6:00pm-9:00pm is the day that the Youth Resource Center is holding a party to welcome us to 100 Mile House BC. We had spaghetti and garlic bread for supper and then we played seared were you have to guess what the picture is.

January 13-19th 2008 Debbie - Jo and I are the first house managers and that is were we get to look after the house and make sure that the house is clean and that there is food for everyone to eat. And we have to plan the menu and buy the food for the week.

January 21, 2008
Today Sara had her day off and we had our free time so some of us would be reading and some would be making bread. Kayla, Ezgi and T-bo were making bread and before we new it they were throwing water and some flour at each other. and they were running around the house because T-bo got Kayla wet and then she was trying to get him back and then before you know it Kayla is screaming nooo and T-bo is trying to get her in the bathroom to wash her hands off and she does not want to. It was crazy. but we did keep the house clean.

Today is also my first day at 100 Mile House Junior Secondary school and all Blake and I did was helped out the gym teachers by playing broom ball with the students. it was fun.

January 24 2008
Today we started our knitting workshop. Yesterday I was taught how to knit a head band with my fingers. Today Blake and I finally finished putting together the crisis plan/fire drill and emergancy plan for the school. The cafeteria was open so Blake and I decided to have lunch there ( the school is paying for our meals)

January 25 2008
Today we helped the vice principle with stocking up the vending machines. To day we are going to be eating our lunch from yesterday because Alex ate all the meat yesterday for today's sandwiches. (luckily we had our lunches left from yesterday)

Memories from Orientation Camp

January 3 2008 7:15am – 11:25am
Today I am leaving to the airport to go to Vancouver BC. We get to Vancouver and we go to the spot that what our tickets says ( Kayla Roberto Victoria and I) then we find out that it was switched from what it said on our ticket to C10 so we ended up having to take our stuff and find
were our plane was stationed and once we found it we sat down then later on got up to go get something to eat. So we were supposed to be on the plane by 2:30pm BC time and then be at Prince George by 4:30pm BC time and then be at Garvin Lake Camp by 12:00am BC time
Because our plane was behind we did not get onto our plane until 4:30pm and then we did not get to Prince George until 6:20pm BC time. When we got to Prince George I called my mom and dad to tell them that I got to Prince George safely. So the bus that was to pick us up and bring us to the camp did not get to the airport until 12:00am and because of that we did not get
to the camp until 2:00am BC time in the morning.
So while we were waiting for the bus and the other plane to get in to get to the airport we played a game to get to know everyone names. The game that we played was we had to say our name and then a word to go with the name. once everyone said their name we then had to start from the beginning and say the person’s name and the word that they said with it. We all got the names right and had fun playing.
Finally the rest of the planes came and then the bus came to pick us up so then we all grabbed our stuff and put our stuff onto the bus. Once we got the camp we got our stuff out and off the bus and then dragged our stuff to the cabins that we were going to be sleeping in and then after
that we ended up going into the area were we had our food to find out what was happening in the morning and then we went to bed.

January 4 2008 9:00am-11:00pm
We got up had breakfast then we started the workshop to find out what was happening and then we had lunch then break and then we had the workshop again.
Then we had supper and then we hung out then we all went back to bed.

January 5 2008 8:00am-11:00pm
Today we got up had breakfast once that was done then the group that was in 100 Mile house or Williams Lake or Quesnel would have to do the dishes. Once that was all done we went back to do the work shop and once that was done we then went and got to go cross country skiing or snow shoeing. I went cross country skiing.
One of the guys in the group Sean was having a hard time skiing he fell down and then did a back flip twist just to get the ski untangled. But he did not continue. Man did we keep falling. One of the guys David F kept falling down.
We saw moose tracks and we got to see a place were a Moose had been sleeping that night.
Once we got back we put our skis back and then went in to have some hot chocolate.

January 6 2008 8:00am – 2:00pm
Today is the last day that we are at the camp and then we packed up and then waited for the bus to come once it came we loaded up and then we got onto the bus and then just as the bus was about to leave one of the girls forgot her camera. and so she had to run and get the camera that she forgot behind. Once she got back on we all clapped and she sat down and then we were on our way.
Once we got to 100 Mile House at about 3:15pm then we got the to Lodge and then we got our stuff off the bus and we all said good bye to everyone. And then at first we thought that the place we were going to stay was the Lodge but then we called Sara and then she came running and told us that the house was a little bit behind the Lodge.then we had to carry our stuff to the house and then found out were our room were one that was done then we had some food or those who were hungry.

I am also noticing that I am home sick and miss everyone.
I have a lot of pictures on my camera the only reason why I can't download my pict to send is because right know Sara's lap top is very full so I have to wait unit the modem is connected to the computer downstairs so that we can have the internet and then I will be able to send u pictures.
well todayI played hockey and ended up getting a little goose egg and a bruise
because Mathieu accidently fell down and slammed hard into my leg. It is sore but
I will be fine.

Lake Gavin Camp

Thursday, January 3, 2008

Jan 3rd

We just had a phone call from Elizabeth to say that she had a good trip and was now in Prince George. They are waiting for other Katimavik young people to arrive so that they can all go to Lake Gavin Camp for orientation. There will be young people from a number of houses going together. She has already meet a girl from Newfoundland who will be in her house and travelled with 2 Katimavik young people from Toronto.
